Sam's Place: Where Young People Thrive through RISE

The RISE Project provides weekly sessions to develop social and life skills through business and relationship scenarios.

Sam’s Place supports young people aged 15+ with disabilities, special educational needs and autism in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. The organisation functions to give children opportunities to gain essential life, social and work skills, develop their confidence and have fun.

Sam’s Place offers several different services, most notably the RISE Project (Respect, Independence, Social, Engagement). These weekly sessions focus on reducing social isolation, developing social and life skills and confidence building through weekly activities such as preparing meals, dance, arts and crafts, and learning how to manage money.

Additionally, RISE Enterprise is a uniquely designed project that runs through both holiday periods and term time, focusing on enterprise activities where those who take part can design and craft quality items to sell at pop up shops within the local community. This too can greatly develop vital life skills like money handling and communication through creating business and relationship scenarios.

They also take pride in their ability to offer parents/carers vital respite and reassurance their children will be supported all the way to reach their full potential.

The grant provided will further expand the project sessions currently available, creating more room for new members and more opportunities for new activities. The charity has noted that they would offer more trips away and give members their first ‘proper’ Christmas party this year.
