Glasdon Offers a Seat to the Friends of the Marton Mere Nature Reserve!

Marton Mere Nature Reserve

Here at Glasdon we have a strong commitment to supporting the local community. After recently being contacted on behalf of the Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve, Glasdon decided to make a donation, as well as provide one of our Westby Seats.

Marton Mere Nature Reserve is a reedbed and lake area, covering 160 acres of grassland and is managed by the Blackpool Council and volunteers in the Friends of Marton Mere Nature Reserve group.

Open all year round, the nature reserve offers a place of tranquillity for the public and is important for nature conservation, quiet recreation and environmental education.

The site is the only designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Local Nature Reserve (LNR) within the town, and is most well-known for its bird populations, with 260 recorded species.

The Friends of Marton Mere Nature reserve is a volunteer group that was formed to support the work currently being undertaken at the nature reserve. The group meets each month to discuss issues, plans and improvements to sustain the area, as well as conducting guided walks and events for the general public. They work to promote the site and help with fundraising to make the site better.

Brian Taylor, the treasurer of the Friends of the Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve, wrote to Glasdon about what the reserve has to offer, describing that the area of woodland “can be helpful in reducing and/or preventing the effects of stress amongst people, who have suffered a life-changing experience such as bereavement, living in isolation, redundancy.”

He also outlined what funding can provide, including training, tools for gardening projects and promotional material.

Passionate about helping to improve the local environment, the Glasdon Charitable Giving Committee donated £500 as well as providing one of our Westby™ Hardwood Seats .

The Westby Seat was the perfect seat for the location, ideal for areas of outstanding natural beauty with its traditional style, it is robust and hard-wearing, and it has the ability to be recycled after a long service life.

Made from FSC® certified hardwood, the seat material follows environmental considerations from an organisation that is dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests.

It also offers the option to add a commemorative or memorial plaque, which we have engraved with our Glasdon logo noting our donation.

The Westby Seat, greatly appreciated by the Friends group, was placed on a platform impressively built by group member Phil Oakley, pictured below.
