Supporting our Veterans

In the aftermath of World War One, groups of veterans who had lost limbs or eyes started coming together with the aim of helping each other. In 1932, Blesma, the British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association was formed.

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans aims to:

• Be relevant to every limbless veteran and their family
• Be a strong advocate on behalf of Members
• Ensure Members’ needs are met
• Draw on its history and heritage to build a successful future for its Members
• Be supported and cherished by its Members
• Retain its position as the expert armed forces charity on living with limb loss

In 1949 Blackpool’s Elizabeth Frankland Moore Home opened as a Blesma members care facility. The home provides 24 hour nursing and residential care for up to 20 people.

The Glasdon Charitable Giving Committee has continued to support Blesma with an annual donation for a number of years.
