In October, The DJ Sidebottom / Glasdon Charitable Programme funded a CRY Screening Event, which screened and tested 183 young hearts over the course of two days.
The organisation CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) works towards preventing untimely deaths caused by cardiac issues among young individuals. Their focus is on raising awareness, providing screening services and conducting research, as well as offering support to families impacted by such tragedies.
CRY offers subsidised ECG (electrocardiogram) screenings to young people between 14 and 35, which can help prevent sudden cardiac death. With an electrocardiogram, conditions such as heart muscle disorders or electrical faults of the heart can be detected.
Organised by The Matthew Hesmondhalgh Memorial Fund, the sponsored screening took place over a weekend at Garstang Academy, with representation by Helen Edwards, Charitable Programme Manager for The DJ Sidebottom / Glasdon Charitable Programme. In attendance with Helen was her daughter, niece and nephew who were three of the young hearts to benefit from this free, public event. The Matthew Hesmondhalgh Memorial Fund seeks to raise money for screenings within the local community through various events, from baking and running, to dancing and treasure hunts!
The screening was a huge success, as Barry & Paula Hesmondhalgh extend their appreciation from everyone at Team Matt, revealing that an incredible 183 people were screened over the weekend.
If you didn’t know, CRY was chosen as our first Employee Charity of the Year in 2021 following an overwhelming number of individual nominations. We look forward to working with them again in the future. For more information about CRY or to learn more about the cardiac screening programme please visit www.c-r-y.org.uk/
