Supporting Babies and Mothers Across Lancashire & South Cumbria

In 1987, Baby Beat was established to fund world-class care and treatment for mothers and babies.

With all projects beyond the scope of NHS funding, Baby Beat has continued to raise funds for babies, mums and mums-to-be cared for in Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's Maternity and Neonatal Units for 35 years. This funding helps provide specialist equipment, patient comforts and services, clinical care, research and training.

The charity's goals are to ensure the highest quality of life from conception to birth, provide specialist care for premature and new-borns, participate in research that could better health outcomes and extend help to parents who have endured stillbirth or the loss of a child.

The charity is currently working on upgrading the delivery suite at Royal Preston Hospital to include a birthing pool that will be used daily, benefitting 360 women & families a year with complicated pregnancies. They assert that a secure birthing environment is essential for all women, regardless of where they give birth or the complexity of their pregnancy. Studies show that having a calming atmosphere is key to achieving positive childbirth experiences. Thus, thoughtful planning must be taken to tame the effects of medicalisation and lessen the differences between home births, birth centres and hospitals.

The DJ Sidebottom / Glasdon Charitable Programme has pledged to help Baby Beat raise the funds for the proposed refurbishment plans, which would enhance the environment, provide a safe space for women who require obstetric intervention and additional monitoring, and make the room a beautiful space for women with complex needs at Royal Preston Hospital.
