F.A.Q

What is FSC® certified responsible hardwood?

The world's forests are a precious natural resource. More than half the world's plant and animal species live in tropical forests.

High demand for wood products, combined with widespread clearing of forests to make room for agriculture, has left many forested areas facing an ecological crisis and several recognisable species of wood facing exctinction. Among the woods under threat are species of mahogany, walnut and even pine.

Organisations including the United Nations Food and Agriculture Office (FAO) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) ensure that the international trade in plants and animals does not threaten the survival of the species in the wild.

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) was established in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world's forests. The FSC achieves this through certification and clear labelling of forest products. To achieve FSC certification, foresters and timber manufacturers have to comply with 10 principles that ensure their products do not have a negative impact on the environment.

We are proud to say that all hardwood products supplied by Glasdon carry FSC Chain of Custody Certification. This is a voluntary process that tracks the wood we use through our entire supply chain, from harvest to the finished seat and across international borders. We are audited annually by the FSC-accredited certification body to ensure full compliance.
