Keeping bins secure (and the people around them safe) has long been a concern, especially for high-profile or vulnerable areas like airports, train stations, shopping centres, and concert venues. All of these locations face significant threats from bad actors, who may try to conceal harmful items in bins.
While many premises have taken measures to prevent such incidents, like utilising see-through bin bags to improve security monitoring, past events such as the Manchester Arena Bombing in 2017 have spurred a growing call for more stringent security measures to combat these threats.
Here in the UK, the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, otherwise known as Martyn’s Law, was recently given Royal Assent by the King. The legislation will take a few years to come into force, but once established, will require premises to plan and prepare for emergency events.
In France, the Vigipirate (National Security Alert System) has been in place since 1978, and requests heightened vigilance and co-operation from the public. Once the system is activated, security checks in public places are one of the measures taken. In the United States, the Department of Homeland Security also has several guidelines and regulations surrounding the security of public bins.
To tackle these concerns, our newly released range of Origin® security bins is designed with compliance in mind. They offer greater visibility of the contents inside the bin whilst maintaining the functionality, durability and sustainability that Glasdon products are known for.
Origin® Transparent Security Bin Range
The three security bins in the range - Origin Vision 110, Origin Insight 110, and Origin Aspect 110 - are ideal for complying with security legislation and are well-suited for areas with high footfall.
Featuring four transparent sides for visibility, Origin security bins allow their contents to be easily inspected by the general public and security personnel alike. Not only does this deter bad actors from leaving dangerous items inside, but it allows operators to see at a glance whether the bin needs emptying, and helps users identify which bin their waste should be deposited in.
Unlike standalone transparent bin bags, which are often subject to the elements, Origin security bins are self-contained units. This means the bin bag is kept centred inside the frame during windy weather, while its domed hood allows rain to simply run off instead of pooling within. To assist with durability, Vandalex® corner posts and an Armortec™ coated steel door frame help ensure the bin boasts a long service life.
All three Origin security bins will help protect premises in the UK from security incidents, and all of them comply with the Vigipirate national security alert system and the US Department of Homeland Security regulations.

Origin® Vision – Maximum Visibility
Offering the most visibility out of the range, Origin Vision features clear polycarbonate side, rear, and door panels that provide a full view of the contents of the bin.
Enabling quick and thorough inspections of its contents, Origin Vision is ideal for the most high-traffic and vulnerable areas, which need regular or heightened levels of security monitoring.
Origin Vision 110 contains a recycled material content of 60%.
Origin® Insight – Discreet Monitoring
Featuring smaller clear polycarbonate ‘window’ panels, Origin Insight blends transparency with traditional bin aesthetics to provide a more discreet security solution.
The windowed panels allow viewing of the bin contents up close, while at the same time covering the appearance of litter from further away. The rustic style of Origin Insight makes it perfect for outdoor areas like municipal parks or plazas.
Origin Insight 110 is the most environmentally friendly of the range, with a recycled material content of 81%.
Origin® Aspect – Open & Convenient
With an open-sided design, Origin Aspect does not utilise clear polycarbonate panels like the other bins in the range.
Instead, Origin Aspect features steel cross-members to keep the bin bag enclosed inside, while the open space between them allows close inspection of the bin contents. This avoids having to clean panels to maintain visibility should they become dirty or smudged.
Origin Aspect 110 contains a recycled material content of 57%.
