Why local councils are choosing larger bins.

Councils in the United Kingdom are always looking for ways to increase efficiency and reduce costs. This creates a better environment for their residents and visitors. One area councils look to is waste management, more specifically street litter bins. In busy areas small litter bins will fill up too quickly, meaning more frequent collections are required to prevent littering. This costs local councils money that could be saved by having larger capacity litter bins.

Using higher capacity street bins is a solution that is proving to be popular for councils. Our Nexus City 140, 240 and Nexus 360 litter bins were designed with this in mind. Their capacities are a respective 140, 240 and 360 litres. Each one houses a wheeled container for ease of emptying.

The Nexus City 140 and 240 feature a durable aperture flap that can withstand heavy usage. The flap also minimises the risk of vermin entering the litter bin. All three bins are made from our signature Durapol® material, a strong and robust polymer that requires minimal maintenance, making cleaning and graffiti removal much easier. Each litter bin features a large recessed graphic area which can be personalised with a council name, logo or message.

We recently delivered a number of our Nexus City 140 general waste bins to Largs in North Ayrshire. The bins are being trialled as the council are seeking a solution to the towns litter issues. During the summer Largs also suffers from gulls and rodents going into litter bins. North Ayrshire council chose the bins because of the large capacity and their vermin proof aperture flap. You can find out more about Largs town and their bin trial in this Largs & Millport news article.
